Day 28-Old Faithful
It has been a different and astounding day. My biggest frustration is being off the grid for so long. We cannot get decent cell service and forget WiFi. I know it’s terrible that I even think about this, but I am a people person and want to be sharing this trip with my friends in a timely manner. So it probably will not be until we are in Montana on Sunday that I’ll be able to upload my blog .
The main agenda today was seeing Old Faithful and all of the geyser basins. I am fascinated by this because it’s hard to fathom is being on a volcano that could erupt at any time. I was not afraid but in awe of the volatility happening under our feet. The sounds of rumblings, popping, and steam , even in little holes in the ground was awesome. I took a lot of pictures and videos so you could hear what I heard. The highlight of today was seeing Old Faithful. When she is not erupting she just let out steam and not a lot of that. The funny thing was there was one line buffalo chilling by Old Faithful. I was amazed that they would be so close and wondered if their feet weren’t hot. As we walked around we saw buffalo poop everywhere, so they obviously somehow aren’t burned or they have an innate sense when they are too close. When it became close to the time for Old Faithful to erupt we went back to sone benches to watch. Lots of people and our friend the buffalo was still there. He seemed calm but was facing us. Finally a park ranger had to move us away from the buffalo. He didn’t want the buffalo to charge us. People were cooperative and we had to move about 3 times to keep a safe distance. Needless to say my view wasn’t as good, but managed to take a video of her erupting which turned out ok. On one of the videos you can hear the ranger moving us. So it was ironic that a lone buffalo kept us from having a great seat.
Tomorrow (4th of July) we hope to go to Lamar Valley where supposedly we should be able to see critters. The only thing we haven’t seen so far is a grizzly, a moose, and a wolf. Hope we’ll see some. Can’t wait to get back on the grid. Happy 4th of July and hope the country isn’t too destroyed.
