Forging Ahead

Today was a very interesting day. We went to see the Ark which is a theme park. It was huge. Everyone so pleasant. It was very hot though and a lot of walking. I was a dummy and wore sandals instead of tennis shoes. The Ark is amazing and even more amazing when you think Noah didn’t have the tools we have today. The Ark is the exact size as mentioned in the Bible and has 3 levels. The architects wrote a disclaimer that they had to use some creative license to construct the inside since the Bible doesn’t mention how the inside looked. When this happens they tried to look at the construction of the times and other historical items. There was beautiful artwork inside, and good information given for questions like how did Noah get the animals in? How did the animals get to other countries? Anyway, this ministry is obviously from a creationist point of view. Day 62 We arrived safely to Daniel Boone National Forest. Our campsite is beautiful and spacious. We feel like we’re in a forest. We just got back from a little hike. Was hoping to see a bear but alas did not. They have signs around here on what to do if you encounter a bear. We took our bear spray just in case. The only down side is that the only place to swim is near the dam. Army Corps of Engineers runs that. Don’t know about fishing. Tomorrow we’re going to see the Ark. Ought to be interesting. It’s about a 2hr drive each way. Joe’s not excited about the drive and I get it, but don’t know that we’d come to Kentucky just to see it.

Day 61 Today was a chill day. Did my laundry then I laid out in the sun for a bit and relaxed in the lake. The water was great. Joe fished some more but didn’t catch anything. That really doesn’t bother him, casting is relaxing to him. Tomorrow we go to our last campground in the Daniel Boone National Forest. We’re there for 2 days and then home!!! It’s been a wonderful trip and Joe and I haven’t killed each other. Just ready to be in my own bed and wanting to see my family!! 

Day 60 Today we went to the Lost River Cave. It is the only cave in Ky that you have to travel by boat. It has an interesting history. Jesse James used it to hide out in after he robbed some bank. It was used by Confederate soldiers to hide out. There is also evidence found in the cave of Native Americans . It is a pretty place that is privately owned and is funded solely by donations, boat tour, and purchases from the gift shop. They have trails and even a zip line. (Closed due to Covid) we enjoyed ourselves and I was not hurting as bad as yesterday at Mammoth. Tomorrow is laundry day and I hope I’ll get to lay out and swim in the lake.

Day 59 Today we went to Mammoth Cave. It was so interesting. It is the largest cave system in the world...covering over 400 miles. Unfortunately due to Covid, the only tour available was a self guided tour. It was a 2 mile walk and I didn’t get to the end because my hip and knee were hurting so bad. I guess it wasn’t the wisest thing to do. I really thought enough time had passed from my hip and knee replacement. There were a lot of hills and steps. Anyway, never got to see the T.B. rooms cause they were at the end. Apparently during the 1800’s the doctors felt putting folks in these rooms would help them get over TB. I tried to take pictures but they didn’t come out so great. We were not allowed to use flash. Tomorrow we’re going the and underground river cave. We’ll be on a boat so I hope I’ll feel better.

Day 58–heading to Kentucky Today was a travel day which took much longer than we thought. Following Joe’s GPS we came to a road closed sign. It didn’t re-route us so Joe tried to figure out based on the GPS map where to go. Not sure if it was the best way, we were on back country roads, but eventually we got to an interstate. Do they still make old fashioned maps? There have been several times on this trip that I desperately wanted one. Technology is great but sometimes I wish for the old fashioned way of doing things. We arrived to our campground during a fierce rainstorm. Had to wait it out before Joe could begin to set up. But it is one of the most beautiful campgrounds we have ever stayed in. Going to Mammoth Cave tomorrow. That should be interesting.
