Day 24- enjoying the mountains

Day 24- enjoying the mountains.

When we woke up today it was 44 degrees. After an all night rain and wind, the rain had stopped and we felt it was going to end up sunny. Joe wanted to drive around to see the sights. It was beautiful. We noticed that the mountains looked like they had snow on them.  They did. We tried to get some decent photos, but an IPhone  doesn’t even begin to show the depth and beauty. Todd had offered his camera for the trip but Joe said no. He’s sorry now. He is dissatisfied with how his IPhone takes pictures. We drove to a ski resort and it was beautiful. The runs were not snow covered, just the peaks. We were at about 6,000 ft. while driving, and the snow covered peaks were higher than that. We figured that they were between 8-10,000 ft. The mountain range is the Wastach Mountains. (Spelling eludes me) They are considered part of the central Rocky Mountains. I can certainly understand why folks want to stay out west. It feels so expansive. One more day here and off to Yellowstone. Hopefully tomorrow it will be warmer and sunny so I can sit by the lake. Until then.....

Day 8 Fun with family

Day 8 Joe informed me that my days were off by one. Oh well, I’ve told you everything I needed to say so I’m continuing with the day I’m on.😊 Today was a fun day with family. Went over to Chuck and Marilyn’s house for breakfast . She’s such a good cook. We had fruit, quiche, and blueberry muffins. Delicious. They have remodeled their house since we were here last. Looks beautiful. My niece and her family came over for lunch. It was great seeing my niece Brandi, and my great niece Margaret. We were also celebrating Brandon’s ((Brandi’s husband) birthday. Marilyn cooked a shrimp boil. Have never had that. You put a lot of things together in a pot and cook. She had corn on the cob, shrimp, sausage, potatoes, and onions. It was very good. Then time for luscious desserts. My great niece made homemade key lime pie, my favorite. Brandon made a homemade blackberry pie. Ice cream and brownies as well. Needless to say I only had a small salad for dinner. In the middle of all this eating ...

Day 27...Yellowstone

Day 27-Yellowstone  Day 27- Yellowstone Well we have no cell or internet so I haven’t been able to post this in a timely manner. Hopefully, we’ll find someplace tomorrow with good cell service or wi-fi. So today was full of adventure . We woke up early to head out to see the sight. The first place we visited was the West Thumb Geyser Basin. What a sight to behold. All this places in the ground with bubbling water/mud . It is so unreal to think about all that’s going on below the service. Got good pictures. Our purpose today was to see critters. Supposedly they are to be found in the Hayden Valley and the Lamar Valley. Hayden is known for its bison and Lamar is known for grizzlies, bears, wolves and other critters. We were not disappointed in Hayden . We saw all kinds of buffalo and got some decent pictures. We also went to the Mud Volcano and it is as it’s name implies. Hot, hot bu...

Day 16 Standing on the Corner

Day 16 Happy Father’s Day to all the fathers in FB land. Hope you all had a great day. Joe and I had a different and fun celebration. We are staying in Homolovi State Park which is Hopi Indian land. There are two main archeological sites. Currently there are not digs going on but we hiked to two of the sites. They have uncovered  two Pueblo’s  (villages) which were fascinating. They have uncovered several rooms and even a kiva (religious room). There were plenty of pottery shards that have been found. There have been vandals here so now it’s a crime to take stuff. There are signs all over the place. Anyway, between the 2 hikes we probably walked a mile or so. It was hot and we were climbing up on a Mesa so we were winded. I have been drinking lots of water so I think i’m doing better with regards to dehydration. After the hikes, we went to downtown Winslow and got pictures at the “Standing On The Corn...
