Day 15
Well we just got back into the trailer after sitting outside watching the stars and reading. You can’t see stars like this in the city, but when you’re in a desert it’s beautiful. It was a long drive today. When we left Red River it was 39 degrees. It is now 10:30 at night and 78. It is pleasant though. It will be very hot for the next few days. In Vegas it’s 109. When we left this morning the views were spectacular. It’s amazing to watch the landscape change. When in the mountains you see beautiful pine trees. Many blue spruce. As we kept going south, the mountains became more rocky and here in Winslow, it’s flat land. After all we’re in a desert. Our campsite is so neat and different. It’s interesting seeing the scrub brush and desert wild flowers. Haven’t seen any critters to speak of. Saw lots of cattle and horses. The cattle are truly free range. When Joe went to get ice, he had to stop for a herd of cattle just walking down the road and into a car dealership. He said there were some longhorns too. I saw a rabbit crossing our campsite. If Moe hadn’t been tied up he for sure would have chased it. On our way here we were parallel to the Rio Grande River. Beautiful. People were fishing and rafting. I would have loved to raft. The pictures I am posting are of the ride out of New Mexico and just some idea of the different topography. Tomorrow we’ll hike a little and for sure go stand on the corner! Night all.
